Julia has worked as a general adult consultant psychiatrist in Glasgow for eighteen years. She qualified as a doctor in New Zealand in 1992 before coming to the UK to further her training in general medicine, and then completed specialist training in psychiatry in the West of Scotland. Having worked in both inpatient and outpatient NHS mental health secondary care services, she has considerable experience in the diagnosis and treatment of mental health problems.
